What is BS?
Bharat Stage (BS) Emission standards are the emission regulation standards set by the Indian government bodies. These standards were set by the Central government to keep a check on the pollution emitted by vehicles that use combustion engines.
BS III and BS IV Emission Standards
Bharat Standard III and Bharat Standard IV are the roman numeric representation of the emission standards where the numbers ideally represent the level of strictness protocol set by ruling bodies. It gets more costlier and tricky for the automobile companies to meet such standards when they jump up.
What about BS 3 Compliant Cars and Bikes?
The automobile companies were given a deadline for 1 April 2017 as the last date of producing BS IV compliant engines. Lot of companies met the target but there is a large pool of vehicles that is still left to be sold. After 1 April 2017, automakers will not be able to sell BS3 compliant vehicles in the market.
